September 1, 2009, 2009 - GEOS New York Newsletter - “What's Up!”

Welcome to our newsletter. There's a heat wave in New York City!!!  Everyone is getting tan and we are spending alot of time outdoors.  The summer holiday groups are almost at an end and the absence of their energy will be noticed.  We're looking forward to you (yes you!!) to bring your energy and culture to GEOS NYC.

Again, please keep in touch and join our  group! Feel free to insert pictures and share your experiences with your friends. Day after day, our  group is becoming more and more popular. It is always a pleasure to look at all the pictures added. Some of our current students discuss their wonderful stays in New York and at GEOS.

SUMMER HOLIDAY GROUPS

We would like to thank the summer holiday groups and their chapperones who helped make August unforgettable.  We enjoyed having you here and had some great times at the Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty, top of The Empire State Building, Coney Island, etc.  Here are just some photos that make us smile.

Thank you and hope to see you in New York City again!!

August in New York was very hot.  We tried to go out at least twice every week to enjoy this summer and soak up the sun.

We took a tour of the Financial District of New York City.  We went to City Hall, City Hall Park, Wall Street, World Trade Center site (Ground Zero), The NY Stock Exchange, Trinity Church and Federal Hall which is the site of George Washington's inauguration.  We ended the tour in Battery Park where we bought some cold drinks, talked and watched the boats go by the Statue of Liberty.  As always we had a great time!

On Tuesday, August 11th we went to South Street Seaport.  Rare 18th and 19th century waterfront shipping buildings have been restored and now house a huge marketplace of shops, restaurants and museum galleries.
The Seaport maintains one of the world's largest collection of historic sailing ships, some of which are open to visitors.

FEATURED STUDENT

"I would like to get my masters degree that's why I chose New York City to study.  I have a chance to meet people from all around the world.  New York is a very special city that you can learn about different cultures.

GEOS is a great school to learn English.  The teachers are very experienced and the staff is very friendly.  They answer all our questions patiently.

There are also field trips that we can enjoy and learn more about New York.  I highly recommend everyone to experience GEOS!

Hey!  I'm Matthew and I love teaching at GEOS!  I love traveling and playing music.  I've lived in alot of different places in America including Florida, California and of course New York!  I've also lived in different parts of the world, including three years in Japan and two years in Australia.  When I was in Japan I learned how to speak Japanese, so I understand how challenging it can be to study a foreign language.  My favorite thing about GEOS is that I can learn about different cultures and help international students enjoy my country!

I hope to see you and your friends soon!  Good luck with your English studies and keep trying!

HOMESTAY SPOTLIGHT

HOMESTAYThis is the home of Hope Coleman in the the town of Lynbrook, N.Y. on Long Island.  It's only 40 minutes from Penn Station by the Long Island RailRoad.  Hope love's to cook and bake and show her students N.Y. culture.  She plans activities on weekends and enjoys hosting students of all ages.

"We'd love to e-mail new students and welcome them into our home in advance of their arrival. We like to let them know that they don't need to bring many items that we supply. Such as: towels, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc."

She is very outgoing and a great hostess who will make you feel right at home.  The Coleman's home has a Jacuzzi and outdoor swimming pool for use in summer.
Hope is a lot of fun!
