GREETINGS FROM GEOS NEW YORK
Welcome to our March Newsletter! March has flown by with a whirlwind (slang for a lot) of big events. Saint Patrick’s Day in New York had a big turnout in the streets, specifically 5th Avenue, with patriotic Irish-Americans and just New Yorkers in general who enjoyed the festivities. Looking forward to April, New York will start rejuvenating the parks as part of the “National Garden Month”. We look forward to the spring weather, but won’t forget to pack our umbrellas because as the saying goes: “April showers bring May flowers!"
Again, please keep in touch and join our FACEBOOK group! Feel free to insert pictures and share your experiences with your friends. Day after day, our FACEBOOK group is becoming more and more popular. It is always a pleasure to look at all the pictures added. Some of our current students discuss their wonderful stays in New York and at GEOS.
MEET OUR STAFF
We are happy to introduce a new member to our team! Meet Abdul Alnemari: Abdul has been a student with us for almost a year and has been a great help with our students who come from Saudi Arabia. Read below to hear his story and how he became GEOS NY's first Saudi Arabian Cultural Ambassador!

"My name is Abdulmajeed Alnemari from Saudi Arabia. I'm 24 year-old and I was born in Taif which is beautiful city in the west side of the country. I like to travel around the world to meet new people and having good experience, so I wish I had enough money to go everywhere in the earth.
Now I'm studying English at GEOS language institute, New York. I really like this place and I feel like it became a part of me and I'm also the Saudi Arabian Ambassador in the school, so I help people who speak Arabic if they need my help through welcoming new Saudi students to New York, translating verbally for them and translating e-mails.
GEOS is a great school that I want to recommend every one to come. Here you will find the perfect place to study English through many different kinds of activities and you can also speak with student from all over the world which is pretty exciting. I have gone through very nice time at GEOS. I have been here ten months already and I still have more and more to enjoy studying and making friends , so if you have a chance to come here, don't hesitate just come and you will see perfect English , nice friends and good experience."

Stay tuned! Next month we will introduce Jennifer Wasco, our new Academic Coordinator.
UPCOMING COURSES
The next Intake Day, also know as a “Preferred Start Date” at GEOS NY, will be on April 25th, 2011. Our brand new Academic Writing Elective will be starting soon. This elective can be taken by any part time or full time student, so it is a great way to get more English while at GEOS. Academic Writing is a great elective to prepare students to be able to compose University level English compositions. By the end of this course, students will be able to write academic reports in a clear and structured format. Although this is a writing class, students will also have a lot of opportunities to speak when exchanging ideas. Have any questions about our Electives or Super-Intensive Course? Don’t hesitate to contact us to receive more information!
We also offer seasonal study tours/holiday group courses that students can join individually for one or two weeks.
Furthermore you can send your own group. If interested, fill out the study tour analysis form that you can find on our website and we will then design a program and prepare a quote for you.
You can also download our 2011 School Brochure here. If you have any questions regarding the programs or the starting dates, just send us an email by CLICKING HERE.
WHAT IS HAPPENING IN NEW YORK

As mentioned before, April is National Garden Month! In New York, this will be the 4th year that New York City Parks will hold events. All through the month there will be tons of opportunities for students to “get their hands dirty” (work hard) and experience spring with an array of gardening activities and events. All through April, different volunteer organizations will be in high demand for anyone interested in restoring parks and planting flowers. The month will come to an end with the NYC GROWS Garden Festival in Union Square Park the last weekend in April. We hope to see you there!

My experience here was absolutely positive. My teacher was friendly and very passionate. I made friends, the staff was always accessible and friendly and my score at the test was pretty good. I am really satisfied.

SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
March is already over and we have had such a great month! Below you can see just a few of the many activities and memories we enjoyed sharing with our students. The March weather was just warm enough for us to make the trip by ferry to the Statue of Liberty.

Above you will see 3 of our students dressed warmly to enjoy the clear blue March skies and of course “lady liberty” herself.
This month we had a Junior Holiday Group from Réunion, a French island located just West of Madagascar! They were great fun to have in the school and their youthful energy was a great addition. The picture above has some of the Holiday Group students with 3 of our Intensive English students eating pizza.

This month we had our second monthly Lunch Chat! During Lunch Chat our students and staff come together to eat lunch and talk about all sorts of different topics; from their classes to their home countries. This month we discussed the best places to visit in New York, nightlife, and future goals. As you can see (or not see as they were all eaten), brownies once again received a good reception!
